Sweet kitty update
Well. Mr. Kitty, who is tentatively named Thomas, sure came to the right house.
He is a very mellow kitty, but he was *too* mellow for a brand-new cat in a strange environment. And pretty soon it became pretty obvious that he wasn’t feeling well. So yesterday I took him to the vet for a checkup. Because he was a stray, and because I probably didn’t articulate it well enough that most likely we were going to keep him, I left the vet with a “Boy, he sure is a cool-cat (meaning: laid back).” and “Don’t worry, bring him back if he doesn’t perk up.”
So I took him back home, but within minutes it was clear that this kitty was really really not feeling well. He just sank to the floor and almost immediately fell asleep. When I had to actually gently shake his head to rouse him, we knew we had to go right back to the vet. So we did, and we got the full gamut of tests. He is negative for all the big bads, which is good. However, the vet thinks he has a mycoplasma bacterial infection, which, coupled with stress, hunger, dehydration and cold, could make a kitty feel pretty punked out.
So now we have a kitty hospital in the art room. After a couple doses of antibiotics and some fluids, plus lots of food and love and rest, he seems to be doing better, although he tires out easily. It’s tempting to want to spend all day snuggling him because he is definitely a snuggler. But Mr. Thomas needs his rest.
Today he has perked up a bit, meowing his greetings and being interested in a catnip toy. He has no problem eating enthusiastically, so that’s good. He’s just easily worn out and needs to sleep.
So yeah. I think we have a new cat. We’re in love. I think it’s safe to say we have a man around the house now. It’ll be awhile before he meets the other ladies of the house, but I think it will work out. He is a little loverboy and we are happy to have him.
