let’s talk movies

Stolen, of course, from Tammie, from whom I steal most of these things. I’m not a huge movie fan, but I fiercely love a small select number of movies and will happily watch them over and over.

Name a movie you have seen more than ten times: Moonstruck. Also, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Name a movie you have seen multiple times in the cinema: This is actually a really difficult one. I saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch three times in a row, in the theater. That’s the only one I can think of.

Name an actor that would make you more inclined to see a film: Well, I usually like Johnny Depp in anything he does. I used to love Nicholas Cage too. Mark Wahlberg is a really great down-to-earth actor and I usually like his movies.

Name an actor that would make you less likely to see a film: This would be a very big list. I am not a huge movie fan in the best of circumstances, and ego-driven actors make me even less inclined to go. Um… I don’t know. Tom Cruise?

Name a film that you can and do quote from: I might as well just copy and paste this answer in all the questions. Rocky Horror, and Hedwig. I even quote Rocky to myself when I’m alone, because it cracks me up to apply those quotes to my own life while doing something mundane like hanging laundry.

Name a musical that you know all of the songs and lyrics to: Well, duh. The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. 

Name a film that you would recommend everyone see: I loved Hedwig and the Angry Inch so much that I really recommend everyone see it, although I’m sure it’s not to everyone’s taste. Still, the music is great, the storyline is heartwrenching and beautiful, and is such an amazing movie about love, loyalty, and being true to yourself, even when it kinda sucks to be you.

Ever walked out on a film: Yes: There’s Something About Mary. I don’t know why, but as everyone else was rolling in the aisles, I and the person I was with were just looking at each other bewildered. I didn’t find it funny at all. Not offensive either, just… unfunny. We were bored. So we left.

Name a film that made you cry:
Out of Africa. Every single stupid time. Oh, that’s another movie I’ve seen approximately one million times (but never in the theater). I love that movie. But there’s actually a long story about why I’ve seen it a million times. Actually it’s very short. Me, in Finland, nothing to do, only one movie available to watch. There’s the story.

Popcorn?
Yuck. I’ll eat it if someone has some, but I won’t buy it. I do like candy in the movies, however. I like Hot Tamales.

How often do you go to the cinema? Almost never. Like, maybe once every two years. Maybe? I used to go more, but even then I’ve never been much of a movie person. Now it’s so annoying to go: the expense, stupid rude people, bad movies. I save it up for a special thing, like (shameful confession) seeing the Twilight movies with my friend Lara, or hopefully Terri and I will go see the last Harry Potter movie in the theater later this week (I’ve never seen any of them in the theater, so why not start with the last one?)

What’s your favorite film genre? Probably SF/Fantasy if I had to choose, or strange/odd indy films. I also like very cheesy 80s movies, slightly better-than-usual romantic comedies (if I’m in the right mood) and most Pixar movies. I usually like weird movies. As in, if they are weird, I will usually like them.

What’s the first film you remember seeing at the cinema? I remember going one summer, and I had a sunburn. It might have been a Superman movie? I was maybe 5? I can’t remember the first one I saw.

What film do you wish you had never seen?
There’s this horrible movie called Meet The Feebles, which I watched in college. Truly disturbing and disgusting. Directed by Peter Jackson. Shudder. Horrible. I wish I could un-see it, but I’m still sort of glad I did see it. Badge of honor and all that.

If you could be any character portrayed in a movie, who would it be? Loretta Castorini. I want that dress! The hair! Plus she’s so fiery. I love it. Love her. (also I can’t think of anyone else)

Total number of films you own on dvd: Oh boy. I personally do not own any (as in, I don’t have any that I’ve personally chosen as “my” movies). We have in our possession maybe 5 or 6, three of which were given to us for free. Yes, I think 6. I would love to have Rocky Horror and Hedwig on DVD but haven’t gotten around to it. That’s what Netflix is for!

Last film you bought: See above. So I guess it would be The Sound of Music, which I bought for Terri quite a few years ago (she loves to watch that movie at Christmas)

Last film you watched: Ooh! I can answer this one. We just watched Harry Potter, Deathly Hallows Part 1. It was kind of disappointing, I have to say.
