a few photos from the trip

This right here is captures it all for me. This is Terri, and her mother’s two sisters. Look at the happiness on their faces. It had been at least 10 years since Terri had seen them. Favorite photo of the trip, for me.

Some others from the trip:

Turns out Chelsea likes room service breakfast, too!

Learning to be a Golden… “Can I get into this river? Please?”
Taking a short walk by the river.
A perfect morning stroll.
Hotel beds are comfy.
Such a great trip. I hope we get to do another at some point. Yosemite is only 3 hours away.
So how did we make this happen?
  1. We were extremely flexible, knowing we might need to turn around at any time. This was difficult to plan, since we couldn’t actually *plan* anything. We made hotel reservations the day before we arrived. Thankfully this worked out for us.
  2. We borrowed a van. This gave us more flexibility, and also we took out the seats and make a huge bed in the back for Terri. She was horizontal for most of the trip, with Chelsea. She can’t sit up for that long, so this was key. Not ideal, but the best we could do.
  3. We kept strictly to our priorities: Did not attend the family gathering the night before the party. Did not do any sight-seeing (except for a brief stroll by the river, which was very close to our hotel, and which we drove to, again to save energy). Got room service or grocery-store takeout — no restaurants. We saved all her energy for the party. We missed some stuff, but got to be there for the important part.
  4. We kept everything as simple as possible and soved every problem as directly and quickly as we could. Stress was kept to an absolute minimum. This makes things very easy.
You know, this wasn’t such a bad way to travel. Lots of relaxing and not much to worry about (once we solved all the logistical problems). So now, we need a van. Sorry Buddy The Cop Car — you are awesome, but it’s pretty obvious we need a van.

Well, eventually! We’ll probably still have him for awhile. Chelsea K-9 Cop will be able to enjoy her fine ride for a little longer. 🙂
