Happy Family

June 22, 2011

So, clearly we need a little time before we find just the right dog for us. It’s going to take some searching. That’s okay. We have time.

But the house felt empty. We had Empty Nest Syndrome, only with(out) animals, not kids. Thomas is a wonderful, amazing kitty, but he’s only one kitty, and we were used to having three. The house felt echoey.  Poor Thomas was getting pestered from every angle, from us, desperate mamas.

So today, Terri and her sister Liz found this amazing boy at the shelter. He seemed shy. Nobody had adopted him yet. But what a gorgeous boy. He opened right up to them and they both knew that this cat needed a really special home.

We might be out of practice with dogs, but we are darn fine cat parents. So, he came home. Here he is. Max, until we find his “real” name. He needs a fancy name. Perhaps a medieval, or literary name. Check out the stunning golden eyes. We’re in love.

“Thank you for rescuing me!”

He’s about 4 or so. Medium size, needs to gain some weight. Fluffy and beautiful, with curly ear tufts, big paws, and a really long tail with the cutest curling action at the end. We’re so glad he’s home. This feels like absolutely the right thing. No question.

He’ll hang out in the art room for a couple days, while he and Thomas get acquainted from under the door. Lots of chicken treats for everyone. Hopefully they’ll like each other. Thomas is a mellow boy, and new kitty seems to be pretty easygoing and lovey too. So we’ll hope for the best.

Ultimately we’d like to get a girl kitten as well, but we’ll just see how the boys do before adding the third cat. And then we’ll see about a dog. Later. But now, we’ve got some kitty lovin’ to do. Welcome, Mr. New Boy. We love you already!

He’s GORGEOUS! I’m so happy for him and for you guys! (Also, now I’m desperately coveting another cat.)

A medieval name definitely seems appropriate: Roland, Tristan, Galahad, Chaucer, Percival, Yvain: so many choices! Can’t wait to see what y’all decide on. 😀

Isn’t he pretty? We’ve thought of Tristan and Galahad. Or Dante. If you have other suggestions, keep them coming! We are so happy to have him at home.

You could name him after some of Scandivanian sagas too. 😀 Lots of variations on ‘Thor,’ lol.

He’s absolutely beautiful! Fingers crossed that it all goes well with him and Thomas.

I think it will. They’re both pretty easygoing, seems like. Maybe some yowling and puffing at first, but then I’m sure it will be okay.

wow lol.. he looks like one of the 9 cats my brother had named stinkey! ..I found male cats are more territorial and don’t get along with each other as much as male and female do.. (and not just for mating reasons) a bunch of female cats do fine together…males want their territory, so I hope they get along ok.. we did had 4 males and 5 females but some staked their territory upstairs lol…

Yikes! I hope they are okay together too. Let’s cross our fingers!

My goodness he is a GORGEOUS cat! We’ve had several male cats at once too and they were ok if they were all neutered. He reminds me a little of the scottish fold kitties with his coloring around the face and all.

    • June 23, 2011 7:54 am

They are both neutered, so I’m hoping they are fine together. Thomas has lived with kitties before, so I’m guessing he’ll be okay with it eventually. Isn’t he a lovely boy?

oh he is just GORGEOUS! was he purring when that first shot was taken? he looks like hes doing some kneading action on the blue blankie.

    • June 23, 2011 10:39 am

He was kneading! He was very happy to be on a comfy blankie, out of the shelter. It just kills me how quiet he was there, and then so happy in a real home. I hate to think that he wouldn’t have been adopted.

Isn’t he a pretty boy! I love his tail!

It doesn’t show well in the photo, but it has this adorable little curling action right at the tip. Super cute.

Not Tristan. That’s a trendy baby name these days. I like Percival or Yvain. Or Mercutio.

    Crazy cat ladies.

We are totally crazy cat ladies. But you knew that. We are considering Finnegan, or just plain old Smokey, since that is his coloring…

He does deserve a noble, courtly name! I had a duck named Percival who definitely did not live up to it, but your Max could carry anything with style!

Hoooo-raaaay! Perfect. Let the healing and cuddles begin.

What a gorgeous boy! You’re right about the eyes – how soulful.

I’m casting my vote for Roland or Percival.

    • June 24, 2011 10:49 pm

It’s too bad that Percival shortens to Percy, because I just don’t like Percy. Roland shortens to Rollie. But we don’t call Thomas, Tom — so, I don’t know. We are having a hard time with the name.

I love your new cat! he’s gorgeous! He should be called Darcy because everyone loves him even if he is frowning……Now I really want another cat!!! Enjoy your new household member, Daphne. Congratulations!
